Capability Scotland campaigns with, and provides services to disabled children and adults throughout Scotland.
In addition to providing a range of modern, flexible services we are also a campaigning organisation, committed to using the influence we have to ensure disabled people achieve the same human and civil rights as the rest of society.
Established in 1946 by a group of committed parents and professionals, Capability Scotland, originally set out with the purpose of providing support to children with cerebral palsy.
Our first service, Westerlea School for children with cerebral palsy, was opened in Edinburgh and became the foundation for over 60 services we now offer to children, young people and adults with a range of disabilities.
Today, Capability has grown into an established organisation which provides support to more than 1300 people throughout Scotland with a diverse range of support needs.
Our specialist knowledge and broad range of services allows us to promote independence and quality of life for disabled people at every stage in their lives and we aim to be a major ally in supporting disabled people to achieve full equality and have choice and control in their lives by 2010.
